Stop me if you've heard this one before: "AI won’t replace proposal managers; it will give them more time to do meaningful work." Yet many proposal managers we know are asking what that means for their careers, their value, and the profession as a whole. Building on the ideas presented by Jen McGovern and Jeffrey Taub at the 2026 SMPS Northeast Regional Conference, this virtual program, “Humans at the Helm: Guiding AI in Proposal Management," expands the discussion with a deeper exploration of how AI is transforming proposal management—and why human insight and intervention remain at the center of the profession’s future. Through the lens of responsiveness, quality, strategy, and creativity, attendees will explore how proposal managers can move beyond adapting to AI—and begin shaping what comes next.
Meet the Speakers:

Jen McGovern, FSMPS, CPSM, is a Senior Regional Marketing Manager for VHB, a 2,200-person engineering, planning, and environmental science firm with 30+ offices along the East Coast. From capture strategy to positioning to proposal messaging, Jen has provided hundreds of hours of training, helping marketers and seller-doers win more work. Jen is a past president (and current Chapter Advisor) of the SMPS Washington, DC chapter and serves on the Editorial Committee for the SMPS Marketer journal.
