During our annual meeting newly-elected officers and directors for 2022-2023 will be announced,  a recap of  chapters accomplishments for the 2021/2022 program year will be provided, and Professional Achievement Awards recipients will be honored. Following the annual meeting, join us for a diversified panel as they discuss current and upcoming projects in Connecticut and their perspective on the state of our state.

Panel:

James A. Fallon, PE | Assistant Chief Engineer - Connecticut Department of Transportation 

James (Jim) Fallon is currently the Assistant Chief Engineer in the Bureau of Engineering and Construction at the Connecticut Department of Transportation.  Jim has been with the Department since 1994 and has held a variety of positions in both the Engineering and Financial disciplines. In his current position, Jim is responsible for approximately 1,000 engineers within the Offices of Engineering and Construction engaged in the design and construction of multi-modal transportation improvements.  Jim is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and Fairfield University, and holds a MBA in addition to his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Jim is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Connecticut.    

Stephen J. Carbery BE, MBA | Vice President, Facilities Design, Construction & Real Estate - Yale New Haven Health, Corporate Facilities

With over 35 years of healthcare experience, Steve Carbery is the system vice president for the Corporate Facilities Division of the Yale New Haven Health System. Steve oversees the safe and efficient operation of approximately 10.6 million square feet of hospital and real estate space. The Corporate Facilities Division includes the Facilities Engineering, Facilities Design and Construction and Corporate Real Estate departments. His team of 280 full-time employees are responsible for directing and overseeing the design, renovation and implementation of all construction projects across the health system, as well as the operation and maintenance of those facilities. His team’s responsibilities also include all facilities regulatory, sustainability and environmental compliance. The real estate division handles the lease management and compliance for over 450 addresses and all property transactions. Steve earned a B.E. in Marine (Mechanical) Engineering from the State University of New York Maritime College, a commission in the USNR (LT) and a USCG Third Assistant Engineers license for steam and motor vessels of unlimited horsepower. He has also earned a Masters of Business Administration from the University of New Haven. Steve is an active member of a number of associations, including: The Center for Healthcare Design-Built Environment Network, The Facilities Guidelines Institute, the Vizient Capital Facilities Council (Past Chair), Ronald McDonald House Western MA & CT, ASHE, ACHE, NEHES, and NFPA. He is a past president of CHES and the SUNY Maritime College Alumni Association. Steve and his wife, Wendy, live in Milford, CT. and they have two grown children.

Courtney Hendricson | Vice President, Partnerships - AdvanceCT 

Ms. Hendricson has 20 years of experience as a local economic developer with expertise in commercial real estate and business retention and attraction. Passionate about local government and its direct impact on residents and business, she oversees AdvanceCT’s service to partners, including economic and land-use support with municipalities and regions and targeted business retention and recruitment strategies. Prior to joining AdvanceCT, Ms. Hendricson served as Assistant Town Manager in Enfield, CT, revitalizing the town’s Thompsonville section and developing a business incubator, and as Economic Development Director in Farmington, CT, targeting bioscience industry growth through strategic partnerships. She also was the director of community development for Connecticut Main Street Center.  She began her career in Austin, Texas, working on large scale economic development projects for the city manager’s office. She received a bachelor’s in government and sociology from Connecticut College and a master’s in public affairs from The University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Hendricson is the past board president of the Connecticut Economic Development Association (CEDAS) and of the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW CT). She was chosen as CEDAS’ Member of the Year in 2012 and received CERC SiteFinder’s Local Economic Developer Award. Courtney is past chair of MetroHartford Alliance’s Regional Economic Development Forum, past co-chair of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) P3 Retail Program in Connecticut, and a graduate of Leadership Greater Hartford’s QUEST leadership development program. She regularly provides municipal trainings across the state and presents at conferences, such as the CT Conference of Municipalities and the Northeastern Economic Development Association - and is committed to the advancement of women in economic development, local government and commercial real estate.

Chris Abel | Membership Director, Associated Builders and Contractors of Connecticut

Chris Abel is the Membership Director for the Connecticut Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC), the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for SMPS Connecticut, and the Co-Host of The Real Estate Roundtable Podcast. Since 2018, Chris has grown ABC membership to a chapter high and has maintained 92% retention, while directing and administering the association’s marketing efforts. Prior to joining ABC, Chris managed territories throughout the northeast in the post-secondary education space where he maintained relationships with over 200 high schools. As an experienced public speaker and broadcasting professional, Chris delivered workshops and presentations to thousands of students with an emphasis on the importance of careers in the construction industry.
