Member Spotlight - Alexis Guerra and Mary Martin

Alexis serves as the Marketing Strategist at M&J Engineering, a construction management and engineering firm located in North Haven, CT.  In her role, she utilizes her creative talents to elevate M&J's brand recognition within the AEC industry through written content and captivating visuals. With a background in journalism and interactive media and communications from Quinnipiac University, Alexis is well-acquainted with meeting deadlines and adapting to the evolving priorities within the industry.

Alexis' motivation to join SMPS stems from her desire to connect with fellow marketing professionals and to further her own professional development journey. SMPS has played a vital role in honing her skills and exposing her to industry opportunities.

In her free time, you'll often find Alexis exploring the newest breweries across Connecticut or running along the Farmington Canal Trail.


Mary has been involved and exposed to the AEC industry since childhood. Growing up, her father worked in construction management and her grandfather worked as a locally well-known architect. Due to her family relationships, she developed a deep, innate understanding of this field from an early age. Mary joined The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM) in 2022, bringing a unique blend of business, sales, and marketing experience along with lifelong familiarity of design and construction processes. As the Corporate, Science & Technology Market Manager, she oversees all marketing, business development activities for SLAM’s Corporate, S+T market nationally, and pursues growth opportunities that advance SLAM’s presence in the marketplace. 

Mary’s unique background allows her to seamlessly align a clients’ organizational needs with SLAM’s architectural capabilities. By leveraging her industry passion and diverse skillset, Mary connects the dots between business requirements and design expertise to address client challenges.

Mary joined SMPS to become actively involved in the local AEC community. As a member, she's been able to establish authentic and meaningful relationships with like-minded peers who share her passion for the industry. Beyond networking, she has utilized professional development opportunities such as the educational programs, mentorship initiatives, and leadership role opportunities. She has significantly deepened her industry knowledge, honed her marketing and business development skills, and advanced in her career. Most importantly, SMPS has reinforced her long-term commitment to this industry. Surrounded by talented professionals, she's inspired to continually expand her expertise and deliver exceptional results.
