Chapter Leadership Award Winners

Nichole D. Petersen, CPSM
Director of Marketing
Flow Tech, Inc.

 

Nichole Petersen is the Director of Marketing for Flow Tech, Inc., a 100% employee-owned organization located in South Windsor, CT. Leading Flow Tech's marketing department is a fast-paced and exciting environment. Nichole’s responsibilities include setting strategies that enhance brand presence, driving customer engagement, and contributing to revenue goals. She is the proud champion of their award-winning company culture, a master communicator, an event strategist, and a recruiter for top talent. Nichole joined Flow Tech’s leadership team in 2021 and contributes to Flow Tech’s vision, decision making and next generation planning.

Since entering the A/E/C industry in 2013, Nichole has become an active member and volunteer of several industry organizations but is best known for her involvement with SMPS. Nichole is the proud recipient of the National 2021 Chapter President of the Year award and Outstanding Large Chapter award for her presidency of the Connecticut Chapter during the 2019-2020 year. She also received the Grace Waldvogel Member of the Year award (2014-2015). Nichole became a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) in 2023. Nichole currently serves as the Chapter’s professional development committee chair, a national CLS Cohort leader and is a regional board member of the NERC Conference. Her past SMPS CT involvement includes Chapter president, secretary, leadership committee chair and sponsorship committee chair.

Prior to Flow Tech, Nichole started her marketing career at ESAPCO where she led their ClearSpan division marketing and event management. Nichole graduated from Johnson and Wales University with an AS in Advertising Communications and a BS in Marketing Communications.

Marta Dąbrowski, CPSM

Marta Dąbrowski has more than 13 years of experience in the A/E/C industry. She is a marketing manager with WSP USA Inc., one of the world’s leading engineering, environment and professional services firms. She specializes in coordinating teams to create winning proposals for complex pursuits that drive company strategic goals. She has been a member of SMPS since 2014 and became a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) in 2016. In 2017, she was the recipient of the SMPS Connecticut Grace Waldvogel Member of the Year award for her contributions to the chapter. She is a past president (2021/2022) of SMPS Connecticut and has also served in various other capacities including as director, communications committee chair, domain champion for CPSM study groups, and as a volunteer on the communications, sponsorship, and mentorship committees. Marta has also served as the co-chair of the communications committee for the SMPS Northeast Regional Conference.

Kathy Nanowski, MBA, CPSM

Kathy Nanowski, MBA, CPSM has a lead role in transforming Fuss & O’Neill’s marketing and sales practices at the firm, instituting consistent, proactive approaches to relationship-based business development.

As a shareholder and previous member of the Board of Directors, Kathy played a pivotal role in elevating the firm's brand. She chaired the Governance committee, fostering stronger connections with staff at all levels and actively contributing to bringing in new business opportunities.

Kathy, a proud graduate of Central Connecticut State University with an MBA focusing on Marketing & Management, has been instrumental in integrating data-driven processes within the firm. Her expertise in this area has not only impacted internal operations but has also garnered national recognition, with Kathy being a prolific writer and speaker on the subject. She is a sought-after contributor to written content for the Marketer, ZWEIG and PSMJ journals. She completed a term as President of the Connecticut Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services and now serves on the Board of Connecticut Main Street and American Council of Engineering Companies.

With nearly two decades of experience, Kathy understands the value of prepositioning. She has taken proactive strides to change internal processes to improve win percentages. Communication, strategies, client relationships, and metrics have all improved under her change management.

Furthermore, Kathy is a proponent for new client development, while recognizing the importance of maintaining relationships with existing clients. Kathy has used her experience in Business Development to facilitate both internal and external training. She has spoken numerous times at the National Deltek Conference, various Regional SMPS conferences, created a national webinar for SMPS, mostly recently at the ACEC National conference and has been providing sales training for her firms clients.

Mary Martin
Market Manager 

The S/L/A/M Collaborative

Mary has been immersed in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry since childhood. With a father in construction management and locally well-known architect as her grandfather, she developed a deep, innate understanding of this field from an early age. Mary joined The S/L/A/M Collaborative (SLAM) in 2022, bringing a unique blend of business, sales, and marketing experience along with lifelong familiarity of design and construction processes. As the Corporate, Science & Technology Market Manager, she oversees all marketing, business development activities for SLAM’s Corporate, S+T market nationally, and pursues growth opportunities that advance SLAM’s presence in the marketplace.

Mary’s unique background allows her to seamlessly align a clients’ organizational needs with SLAM’s architectural capabilities. By leveraging her industry passion and diverse skillset, Mary connects the dots between business requirements and design expertise to address client challenges.

Unforgettable is how Ruth describes the opportunities SMPS has offered her: Chapter Board Member/Secretary, Membership Chair, SMPS Westchester NY Liaison, multiple National SMPS Marketing Communications Awards, Marketer Magazine contributor, Chapter/Regional/National presenter of creativity workshops, Member of the Year and Lifetime Achievement awards recipient.

Inspiring is how she regards working with clients from SMPS. Thanks to those A/E/C graphics opportunities, national design organizations/publishers have recognized Millward and Millward’s work: the Library of Congress, Graphis Magazine, Print Magazine, the Art Directors Club of New York, Graphic Design USA, the New York Type Directors Club, and the American Institute of Graphic Arts.

Grateful is her feeling about the educational background she has enjoyed: Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Graphic Design from Carnegie Mellon University and the Basel College of Design in Switzerland; faculty positions at the Philadelphia University of the Arts, University of Cincinnati, Ohio State University, and Director of Graphic Communications at Louisiana State University.
