We're celebrating SMPS CT volunteers! Meet some of our committee chairs and learn more about their journey with SMPS CT!

KATE ANDERSON | Membership Chair |  Sales & Marketing Specialist, Gilbane Building Company

"There exists within SMPS CT a unique sense of camaraderie that is hard to come by. I’ve developed strong relationships that extend well beyond the fantastic programs and networking opportunities SMPS offers. More than once, I’ve called on an SMPS friend with proposal or marketing question, and they are so happy to share their knowledge and expertise. I am grateful to be connected with so many talented and creative AEC industry experts who help me grow both personally and professionally!"

DANA LEE | Mentorship Chair |  Senior Proposal & Content Management Specialist, Tighe & Bond

How did you get involved with SMPS?

"I originally became involved with SMPS back in 2002 when I was working for a small firm in New Haven, CT. My boss at the time was and remains very involved in the Chapter and she encouraged me to get involved!"

What’s your favorite SMPS event and/or lesson?

"Build your network – it’s a small community and the connections you make will last a lifetime. Things often come full circle in this industry!"

What do you look forward to most during the program year?

"Meeting new members and connecting with the old."

What have you gotten out of SMPS?

"Lifelong friends, mentors, invaluable knowledge, connections that have lasted my entire career."

What do you still hope to get out of SMPS?

"I learn something new every single time I get together with fellow SMPS members. There is so much I have yet to learn. The folks with the industry knowledge and those just starting have equal amounts of things to teach, if you listen!"

JOCELYN TAYLOR | Communication Chair | Marketing Coordinator II, BL Companies

"I was lucky enough to be introduced to SMPS CT by my current boss, who at the time was SMPS CT’s President! Becoming a member early on in my career was extremely beneficial to both my professional and personal development. I created lasting connections, learned about the AEC industry from like-minded professionals, and quickly became immersed in volunteering for the chapter.

SMPS CT has given me the opportunity to gain leadership skills by serving on the board and eventually chairing a committee. These leadership positions have been invaluable to my career growth in the industry.

For the upcoming program year, I look forward to potentially easing back into in-person events, and meeting all the new members who joined in our “virtual age”!"

CARLY OLSON | Education Co-Chair | Marketing Specialist, The Lane Construction Company

How did you get involved with SMPS?

"My supervisor recommended I join SMPS when I started with the company in March 2020. My predecessor was a member and really enjoyed her time with the chapter. Being new to the A/E/C industry, my company thought SMPS would be a great way for me to meet colleagues in the industry and network with potential mentors and skilled professionals that could help accelerate my growth."

What’s your favorite SMPS event and/or lesson?

"I always look forward to our weekly Education Committee meetings to connect with my team and brainstorm new, creative ideas for upcoming programs. We have a great time and love getting to work with each other!"

What have you gotten out of SMPS?

"I have formed some great friendships and professional relationships that have helped me become a better leader and colleague. We all share ideas and effective ways our companies have excelled in marketing and communications. I always walk away from our meeting and programs re-energized and with new areas of interest."

What do you still hope to get out of SMPS?

" I am looking forward to participating in the Mentorship cohort to learn from skilled veterans in AEC. I still have so much to perfect being newer to the industry and trust that I’ll be able to learn from the best within SMPS."
