Hello everyone,
I am beyond excited to be serving as the 2022-2023 SMPS Connecticut Chapter President. I grew up around SMPS CT, so to be leading the Chapter now in its 40th year is a real privilege and honor. I hope I can use this opportunity to give back to an organization that has been so instrumental in my career.
We’re in the second year of our three-year strategic plan, continuing to focus on key goals like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Industry Collaboration, and Communication. But more than anything we want to focus on growth. We want to continue to provide opportunities for our members to grow in their profession and knowledge, grow in their network, as well as grow their business. We’ll continue to provide the educational workshops and technical training, interesting and relevant programming, networking, and business development opportunities you need to grow.
We started the year off strong with our 2nd Annual Win More Work Summit, a one-day conference dedicated to winning work in the AEC industry. The day was a great success with nearly 100 guests in attendance for a series of informative and thought-provoking programming. We have more exciting programs on the horizon, starting with our virtual workshop on November 30th, “Marketing at Low Tide”, which will teach attendees how to recession-proof their marketing departments.
My unofficial mantra this year is “progress not perfection”. This industry is made up of chronic perfectionists, overachievers, and competitive spirits, but we shouldn’t let perfection stop us from moving forward or asking for help. Don’t let a fear of imperfection stop you from trying something new, whether that’s taking the Certified Professional Services Marketer exam, volunteering on a Chapter committee, or presenting on a topic you know well.
I hope you’ll join us in becoming an active part of SMPS Connecticut. We want to help you grow, no matter your experience-level, role, or status in the A/E/C industry. Join our community of marketers, business developers, technical professionals, students, business owners and principals, and get involved: become a member, join a committee, lead a program, join the mentorship cohort, or attend an event.
I hope everyone has a happy, healthy, and refreshing holiday season!

Julia DeFrances, CPSM
President, SMPS Connecticut
Senior Marketing Coordinator, BL Companies, Inc.
