President's Message - August 2023

Hello SMPS CT!

It’s hard to believe that the 2022-2023 term is already at an end. It has been a true joy to serve as President this past year, and I can’t wait to see what our next term has in store.

SMPS Connecticut has accomplished a lot over the last 12 months. From hosting over 10 programs and educational workshops, including our second Win More Work Summit to adding six new CPSMs and navigating changes to the CPSM exam, to our on-going mentorship cohort discussions and one-on-one meetups - we’ve been creating more opportunities for our members to connect, learn, and showcase their expertise. As the program year comes to a close, I have so many people I need to thank:

My Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, and Volunteers for stepping up to lead and serve our chapter. Our Annual, In Kind, and Collaborating Sponsors for their part in supporting our Chapter. Our Speakers, Guest Instructors, and Panelists, for sharing your time and your expertise with us. My friends and coworkers at BL for giving me the time and support to serve as President. And of course, I have to thank my mother, for bringing me into the industry, SMPS, and you know, the world. Thank you all. It has been a joy to work alongside and learn from all of you.

I’m excited to introduce our new Incoming President for 2023-2024, Dana Lee! Dana’s one of the most thoughtful, intelligent, and talented marketers I know, so I’m confident I’m leaving the chapter in very good hands. She’s been instrumental in our chapter for several years, serving as Mentorship Chair before moving on to President-Elect. Under Dana’s leadership, SMPS Connecticut will continue to advance our chapter initiatives, closing out the final year of our three-year strategic plan while also implementing new ideas. We are all hard at work planning for the upcoming term, but we already have some upcoming events on the calendar – including our AEC Industry Networking Reunion on September 27th.

Serving this chapter as President has been such a rewarding challenge, and it has been a true honor to lead. I’m excited to continue on with the Board as Immediate Past President and to support Dana and her incoming board as they take SMPS Connecticut into the future.

Thank you,

Julia DeFrances, CPSM

President, SMPS Connecticut
Senior Marketing Coordinator, BL Companies, Inc.
