We're celebrating SMPS CT volunteers! Our new board has been officially voted in! Meet some of our incoming 2021/2022 board of directors and learn more about their journey with SMPS CT!

ALICIA MOJICA WASHINGTON, NOMA | Current President - 2021/2022 Immediate Past President |  Principal, Director of Marketing & JEDI, HRP Associates

"SMPS CT is in a unique position. We have an opportunity to diversify the AEC industry by actively recruiting students and business professionals who have an interest in marketing.  Because many AEC marketers say they “fell into this industry”, we should have a focus on community and industry outreach and creating access to AEC marketing career opportunities.  We can extend our net so far and bring in amazing talent that is sitting right under our nose.  I’m excited about the future of the chapter and the impact we will make.”

MARTA DABROWSKI, CPSM | Current President-Elect - Incoming 2021/2022 President | Marketing Manager, WSP

How did you get involved with SMPS?

"I joined SMPS CT in 2014. Being new to the A/E/C industry, it was a great opportunity to gain knowledge to advance my career as well as to network and develop connections. My first event was the 2014 annual strategic planning retreat and I joined a committee that same day -  the rest is history! "

What have you gotten out of SMPS?

"Volunteering with SMPS CT has been instrumental to my growth as a marketer. Chairing the communication committee and being on the board of directors has helped me develop my professional and leaderships skills."

What do you still hope to get out of SMPS?

"As the incoming president, I’m excited for all the opportunities and lessons the next year will bring. Our chapter has a remarkable group of volunteers that continue to amaze me with their dedication, creativity and skills. I can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish next program year!"

PATRICK DELANY | Director | Marketing & Pre-Construction Director, O&G Building Group

How did you get involved with SMPS?

"After nearly 30 years working for construction companies on the technical side I was looking for something new and different.  In 2018 O&G had an opportunity for me that allowed me to build on what I know and grow in a role that includes marketing for the building group.  Once I made that decision to try marketing I knew I needed help and followed the advice of Kate Anderson and joined SMPS.  Kate got a nice referral credit from that 😉."

What’s your favorite SMPS event and/or lesson?

"I don’t have a favorite, yet.  My marketing career is three years old and COVID occupies over a third of that time.  So far the face to face meetings, especially NERC, and the interactions and learning those events provide are definitely towards the top of a favorites list."

What do you look forward to most during the program year?

"Like with “favorites”, I haven’t settled on any one thing yet.  That said, I am looking forward to face to face meetings starting up again and NERC 2022 at Lake George."

What have you gotten out of SMPS?

"Wow, that’s a tough one, I’ve already gotten so much.  I guess being on the older side of the demographic and a white male, the interactions with our younger members has helped me better stay in touch with current trends and afforded me the opportunity to learn and see things from different perspectives.  And, in a nod to the COVID effect, SMPS has provided me with a solid foundation for the production of video conferences…"

What do you still hope to get out of SMPS?

"A lot, and I know there’s a lot to get.  First is fun, we have such a great group of volunteers and members, it’s difficult not to have fun and I look forward to that continuing.  Second, SMPS provides me with sound guidance for marketing AEC firms and that will be a career long need.  And third, being a board member and membership committee member provides me with me opportunity to give back.  So, in summary, I look forward to SMPS continuing to providing me with fun, learning, and the opportunity to give back to others."

LUKE GLENDENING | Director| Marketing Manager, Turner Construction Compnay

How did you get involved with SMPS?

"My mentor was Bernice Bako, whom I worked with in Marketing at Turner. Bernice got me to attend my first SMPS meetings."

What’s your favorite SMPS event and/or lesson?

"I like the Strategic planning sessions because you get to network with colleagues and brainstorm about new ideas in a relaxed setting."

What do you look forward to most during the program year?

"I look forward to being part of the creative and talented committee and learning from my peers throughout the process."

What have you gotten out of SMPS?

"Long term friends and partners.  Overall AEC experience and knowledge."

What do you still hope to get out of SMPS?

"Developing my overall marketing expertise and learning from others."

CAITLIN PORTER | Incoming 2021/2022 Director| Marketing Specialist, Prime AE Group

What do you look forward to most during the program year?

"I’m always looking for opportunities for continuing education, and every year comes with a whole new lineup of programs that aren’t just industry-specific, but are also easily accessible and attended by lots of my favorite people too!"

What have you gotten out of SMPS?

"In addition to helping me become a more effective marketing professional, SMPS has provided me with so many opportunities to grow as a leader and be part of a community of like-minded peers.  I wouldn’t trade my time spent serving on the communications and education committees for anything."

What do you still hope to get out of SMPS?

"I can’t imagine my career in A/E/C marketing without SMPS. It’s been the perfect complement to the skills I’m developing at work every day, and I look forward to many more years of education, relationship building, and fun!"

HANNAH SULLIVAN | Incoming 2021/2022 Director| Marketing Coordinator, Standard Builders, Inc.

How did you get involved with SMPS?

"I got involved in SMPS early on in my career, I had several people in the industry tell me if there was a group to get involved in, this was the one to be in. So I jumped right in, got involved, and am so thankful I did!"

What’s your favorite SMPS event and/or lesson?

"One of my favorite events, to date, is actually the first SMPS event I went to! I attended the Julie Brown networking presentation. This was a perfect event to start at, she gave so many useful and practical networking tips, that I still use to this day."

What do you look forward to most during the program year?

"I thoroughly enjoy being a part of planning the events. I look forward each year to being able to help collaborate with so many talented people in the industry, and work together to put on educational events for everyone.  We always have a blast doing it!"

What have you gotten out of SMPS?

"There are so many things I have learned in SMPS, I could not list them all! Simply just working alongside so many talented, hardworking, fellow marketers has taught me so much.  I am so thankful for SMPs and the people in it, I have grown so much in my career in the few years of being involved in SMPS!"

What do you still hope to get out of SMPS?

"I hope to continue to learn from the SMPS events, and people around me as I am rising in my career, but I also look forward to a future of helping others who are new to the AEC industry, and helping them like so many helped me when I first joined the industry."

CHRIS ABEL | Incoming 2021/2022 Treasurer | Membership Director, Associated Builders and Contractors of CT

How did you get involved with SMPS?

"My first introduction to SMPS came from seeing social media posts shared by few members who are also involved with Associated Builders and Contractors, where I am the Membership Director. This opened up more conversation with people like Nichole Peterson and Jessica Parkins."

What’s your favorite SMPS event and/or lesson?

"Shortly after doing some research and speaking with a some other members, I decided to attend the Win More Work Summit in 2019. WMW was great! There was good energy, plenty of familiar faces, but even more new people to meet and network with. I joined SMPS shortly after."

What do you look forward to most during the program year?

"I became a member of SMPS to continue networking and learn more while networking. I consider myself more of a non-traditional marketing professional, meaning it is part of my job, but not the main objective. SMPS programs allow me to constantly grow and learn more about marketing while supporting my industry peers."

What have you gotten out of SMPS?

"I have been able to naturally establish new relationships with so many true professionals in the industry, but more importantly so many of them are just good people."

What do you still hope to get out of SMPS?

"I just can’t wait for in-person events to start back up. I am also slated to become the Treasurer for the group for the upcoming Program Year. I know it will be a challenge but I am grateful for the opportunity and I am looking forward to it."
